This page concentrates on those who write both the music and lyrics to their songs. This is also my main purpose in creativity.
Starting at home.
I have spent most of my song-writing time as a solo composer/lyricist. My song tally totals 200 and my instrumentals are a few jingles,150 short tunes, 5 long works, 8 electronic computer tracks as a suite and the top and tail of a Symphony. There are also 14 songs in collaboration with my first piano man, Mike Keith, awaiting for completion.
Of Course this paragraph is devoted entirely to the 200 songs. In 1964, I wrote a few lyrics since my cornet playing had lapsed. As 1965 arrived, I jotted down lyrics in an old exercise book at the rate of one a week. I lost the book after I started working in club bands as a bassist. It was not until 1992 that it turned up when I was sorting out wheat from chaff. I started knocking them into shape which was not particulary difficult since it was basically an edit type of job.
Trying to remember the tunes proved more exasperating then applying the chordology because there were only a couple of 12 bar blues rock'n'roll types included in the list. I then set about recording them whilst writing new much more advanced material. There was a set from 1973 which re-emerged and I began to rework those. Much of the instrumental work was in the 1980s which is why there are not many songs from that decade. I added Lute music and some Flamenco guitar to my growing list of genres.
More recently I completed another 20 songs and there were songs, including some Folk songs all around the turn of the millenium.
