Guitaristan

Welcome to Guitaristan, our cyberspace nation primarily for Asian and South Asian descended guitarists. Doubtless other musicians and people of other ethnic origins will take an interest. All are welcome and topics of a sensible musical nature will be added to this page. These will be scrutinised to exclude anything profane or offensive before posting on this website. We are serious musicians and social banter is not required nor will any kind of derogatory statements be tolerated anywhere on this website.

Amrit Sond: Accomplished guitarist.

Preferring alternative tunings, Amrit, who I recall is a man of four Continents, was born of Punjabi parents in Kenya but has Uncles in Canada and resided in England. His Album is on an American label and is well worth a listen. I shall add more on this later.

I have mentioned a Polish make of guitar on the Luthiers page. I know that there is an Indian Musical Instrument specialist shop in Southall, London U.K. It may be interesting to find some guitars made in India. Anyone knowing such brands could pass on the name(s) to me and it would be much appreciated.

We are now able to supply CDs of Indian etc. music, Bhangra, Bollywood, Raga. other folk material having made contact with new suppliers.

Nitin Sahwney has been commissioned to compose music for soundtrack to an Alfred Hitchcock silent movie.

Our first guitarist on this page is Amrit Sond who built up a bit of a reputation for himself about ten years ago. He was from the Northolt area of Middlesex. I encountered him when he played at The Coppid Beech Hotel and the Southill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell. He also played at the Windsor Arts centre. Update 02/03/2010      Amrit has now been notified and is in contact..

The next idea for this page is to feature another Guitarist or musician. Is Kuljit Bhamra still playing Tabla? Update:14/04/10. answer this myself. Yes on BBC Radio this week.

26/01/11. Kuljit heard on late night BBC radio playing Tabla on a recording of a tune "Bing" with Andy Shepherd & Band. Having seen his name on the list for Towersey Folk festival a couple of years ago, it seems like Kuljit is making his presence felt in several genres!!!
